The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Portraits

What a night! The folks at The Playhouse San Antonio know how to put on a show AND how to put on a party.

The Opening Night of the show AND the 2017-18 Season went incredibly well and the packed house gave an immediate standing "O" to show their agreement.  I'm not a theater reviewer so I can't expound on the finer notes of the book or how a particular lead actor fared but I will share one of my observations:

The Ensemble and Chorus were fantastic ... and not just in their vocal performances.  These actors are on stage during a majority of the show and often they're not directly involved with the action.  Despite that, their presence is noted and I couldn't but make an effort to notice how well they maintained either their character or stood perfectly still.  It's so easy for an errant move by these folks to unintentionally draw a viewer's eye away and thus, out of the moment.

Again, not an official review but, in short, you're dumb if you don't go see this beauty of a show! Tickets are available HERE!

Now the portraits!

An otherwise great show with a poor ensemble will suck.  Regardless of the lead-loaded talent, a bad ensemble gives the viewer countless opportunities to be pulled out of the moment, to forget about the magic.  A less-than-stellar voice, a poor movement, or any drop of character will take away from all the other quality movements in a show.

With these stars, that wasn't a problem.  They and their compatriots gave 110% in every moment of stage time.

I never wish to discount the efforts of those cast or crew members that perform so much of the unseen work as they spend just as much time on this production as do the leads.  They spend loads of time and resources getting to where they're at in their careers and they have just as much impact on a show.  Both those LEADS!  Holy cow!

I must give lots of credit to the Director, George Green, beacause I know how much coaching goes on for even the most talented artists but these guys nailed their performance.  Again, not a reviewer but I know quality performances when I see them.

Bob, Quinn, Nick, and Alyssa ... I commend you!
