Dan Antonio, or ... The State of danscape ......

Or ... "Who the hell is Dan?"

Or ... "Why is there a huge spider at the top of this post?"

George: Hey Dan, you wanna go to a cool town and do what you love doing with cool people while getting a chance to make something awesome that'll get nationwide attention?
Me: Pfft!  Sure, whatever.

And here I am! My new position is with The Playhouse San Antonio as the Director of Marketing and Social Media.  While that means that I have a lot to do to properly get our cool shows out into the public, it also means that I get to take a whole mess of archive images, cool character portraits  and videos of the people and things that go into those shows. Please believe that I'll make absolutely certain that you'll get to see my theater work on this blog. Like I did for The Modern, after a show has run its course of promo images, I'll show them here like I recently did with Dogfight!

This is great news but it means some changes for danscape.  I won't be doing work for any other of the local theaters like I did in the Spokane area.  Ignite Theatre's production of 'The Hostage' yielded one of my very favorite images, too. I enjoyed helping other theaters shine but I'm down here to make THIS theater look great, not the others.  My job is to make OUR actors and productions look fantastic ... and I shall give maximum effort for that.

I've done my best to capture the less-seen parts of Spokane.  I shall do that in San Antonio, too!

As I did in Spokane, I intend on finding corners of the town that may be beautiful but under-highlighted. Sure, I love traditionally beautiful vistas and cityscapes but I REALLY love finding hidden gems.  San Antonio seems to have plenty of those.  Because it is such a vast and beautiful town, there is SO much to capture and, while doing so, I'm going to try and emulate the work of one of my favorite photographers, Thomas Foswig. His HDR images are, I think, very unique and beautiful (Yes, I'm biased because he captures Bremen so well.)  Naturally, I'll add my own spin to them and once they start coming out, and if you've seen my other cityscapes, you'll know what I mean.

As I settle in more, I'll be starting up headshots again.  In such a big town like San Antonio, there seem to be plenty of lovely and talented faces out there that need capturing ... especially as we evolve into a more prominent theater.

I also intend on continuing my pseudo-travel photography, whether with my grown-up camera, my smartphone or the GoPro.  There is so much beauty around us and so many cool towns to capture.  I intend to explore as much of this fine state as possible.

On rare occasions, I try to capture human beauty in its pure form.  It's not something that I do very often because I think it's done too poorly too often by too many hack photographers. I only create such imagery when all the factors combine; the perfect subject, the right location and an idea for the imagery that is a pure and simple as possible.  So far, I've done well.

I look forward to finding out more aout San Antonio's theater crowd and all the cool skyline vistas, hidden gems and cool neighborhoods.  I look forward to seeing and creating new things that highlight the faces and places that I encounter!

Stay tuned!

Oh ... the spider?  That freakin' monster lives just a few feet outside my door.  Welcome to Texas!
