Update - In the Spring of 2020, Amber went on a fantastic journey as a very high ranking contestant on American Idol.
Check out some of her appearance videos below.

Since stepping into the theater circles, I'm constantly reminded how many talented folks live in the area: actors, singers, musicians, techies and administrators. The area's high schools are talent factories and they create more talent each and every year. I'm going to begin putting a spotlight on some of the actors and entertainers that I get to meet.  There are plenty so I should have no shortage of stars and rising stars. Let's begin with Amber!

I met Amber as I began work on my first show for the former Lake City Playhouse where she had nabbed one of her dreams roles, Eponine in Les Miserables. The show had a sold-out run and her portrayal certainly had something to do with that. That wasn't her first time on stage, though.

My very first audition was for Willy Wonka at Pend Oreille Playhouse. I was in the 7th grade and I ended up playing Violet, the gum chewer. Dee Ann Boydston was my director and she was awesome. I did school productions before but this was the first one that seemed “professional” to me. I loved playing Violet, she has so much sass. Let’s just say I played that part well. - Amber

As soon as she walked into that first audition, she was hooked.

I would definitely have to say that my favorite role has been Eponine from Les Miserable. I had always dreamt about playing her growing up. “On My Own” was the one song I knew by heart, forward and backwards. I remember when George called me to tell me I had received that role and I instantly burst into tears. Tears of joy of course!

Naturally, the topic of dream roles came up during our chat (It always does when chatting with actors).  Oddly enough, a few of them are coming up soon for audition.

1. Rose – Dogfight ("I listen to this show every time I drive…you could say I have it memorized") 2. Natalie – Next to Normal 3. Elphaba – Wicked ("duh!") 4. Wendla – Spring Awakening 5. Sherrie – Rock of Ages

I am absolutely without a doubt pursuing a career in theatre. I can’t think of anything else I want to do! I remember sitting down with my parents thinking of a “Plan B”, you know “just in case”, and I couldn’t think of a darn thing. Theatre is my love and my dream.

She doesn't seem to have any illusions about how difficult or stressful making theater a career can be!

Doing theatre is stressful, but theatre stress is a different kind of stress.  If it means selling everything I have to move to Chicago, then sign me up. I can’t see myself doing anything else. I don’t care if I am 50 years old and still haven’t made it…I am never giving up on my dream!

There are lots of auditions for plenty of shows coming up in the greater Spokane/CDA area.  I certainly expect Amber to be at them and to shine.

Theatre stress is stress that I want. Theatre stress is good stress, because theatre is my passion. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get there.
